2010 LeeFest Is A Success

LeeFest 2010 took place Friday April 9 with ten videos showcased this year. These student produced video spanned the categories from 60 second commercial parodies to German and French student's comedies and even an original stage play.

LeeFest A Success

On Friday, January 16, LeeFest played to a packed house. Approx. 160 people were in attendance - meaning standing room only. Eight videos were shown, ranging from Claymation to a teacher team created video starring many CCES teachers and, yes, administrators.
Thanks to all the students and teachers who created videos and who helped to make this evening a stellar performance. For our first film festival, everyone has set the bar high for the next year.
Special thanks go to Glyn Sandzen, Julie Antworth and Tudda Carpenter for all their help and especially for all the popcorn in LeeFest logo bags.

LeeFest Film Festival Premier January 16

Everyone will have a chance to see all the student created LeeFest videos Friday, January 16.

The premier event will take place in Mr. Sim's blackbox classroom, starting at 7 pm

Popcorn and refreshments will be served. Come vote for your favorite video.

Deadline for Videos on DVD January 15

The last chance your team will have to turn in a LeeFest DVD will be Thursday, January 15, 2009.

All videos must be no more than five minutes in length, including the title and ending credits. Each video must have a beginning title and ending credits listing the names of everyone on the team who helped with your video.

This was the stage set that Eric made for our teams. Eric had students rearrange lights and showed that interesting lighting effects can be achieved with inexpensive clamp-on spot lights.

First Workshop with Eric Rogers

CCES students and teachers attended the first workshop today at the Fine Arts Center. With Eric's direction they shot a series of short film clips. Although it took only about 15 minutes to shoot, each of these versions took about an hour and a half to edit. That’s a pretty typical ratio so keep that in mind when you begin your projects.

Eric set up this workshop to demonstrate that the story should be told through the filmmaking, more so than through the acting. This includes the lighting, position of the camera, order of the shots, pacing of the shots, the sound effects, music, etc.

Eric edited two version of the video, one for comedy and the other for suspense.

LeeFest will Kickoff Friday August 29

During the CCES assembly, LeeFest will be re-announced by Carl Sykes. The Artist-in_residence this year will be Eric Rogers, Film and Video teacher at the Fine Arts Center.
Students will sign up in teams Sept. 2 - 5.
There is a team meeting during lunch on Friday, Sept. 5 to go over the rules and procedures.
The theme this year is "GLASSES"

There are four sessions scheduled with Eric Rogers:

Sept. 6, starting at 9 am at the Fine Arts Center (FAC)
Sept. 20 Second workshop with Eric at CCES starting at 9 am
Nov. 1: Third workshop with Eric at CCES starting at 9 am
Dec. 13 Fourth workshop with Eric at F.A.C. starting at 9 am

The LeeFest Film Festival will be held Jan. 9 & 10 with screenings at CCES at 7 pm each night.

LeeFest Announced May 2, 2008

LeeFest was announced to the CCES Upper School students Friday, May 2 during a presentation in the auditorium. The video below is an edited trailer of the one shown during the presentation. LeeFest will be a film festival to encourage artistic expression in a non-competitive venue. It will commence during the fall of 2008 when students will sign up in teams of 2 – 5, then, after working with a professional film maker, will check out digital video cameras & tripods and shoot video. They will then work in the school’s Mac lab using iMovie and GarageBand in post-production editing to create a short video (max. of five minutes) which will be shown in a LeeFest festival in January, 2009. Sarah White: the Gray Man

"The Gray Man" below is a short trailer of a twenty minute video created by Sarah White while a student of Dan Harris at CCES. She graduated in 2007 and is currently enrolled in Colorado College, majoring in English with a concentration in film. Sarah was a close personal friend of Lee and remains committed to honoring his memory though media production.

The official announcement of LeeFest will take place during the Upper School assembly. Glyn Roche, Lee's mother, will give a presentation to the student body that will explain the entire concept. We will add content to this blog as the official announcement date nears.
